Badina Anna - Graphic Designer & Illustrator

"I'm Anna Badina, an illustrator based in Biel, originally from Russia. My journey into the world of illustration began during my graphic design studies when I discovered my passion for traditional pen and ink techniques. Growing up in Switzerland, I learned to appreciate the subtle beauty of everyday life, which became a significant influence on my work.
Inspired by the moments often overlooked by others, I strive to capture the charm and fascination of the mundane through my illustrations. Drawing from my fascination with Asian art aesthetics, particularly Japanese culture, my Indian ink illustrations are infused with its richness.

Exploring the diverse landscapes and hidden gems within Japanese cities, my artwork reflects the essence of people, atmosphere, architecture, and nature. Each drawing is a personal reflection of the moments I experienced, aiming to encapsulate the unique atmosphere I felt at the time.
Through my illustrations, I invite viewers to join me in appreciating the beauty of everyday life and the diverse cultures that shape our world. It's my way of bridging the gap between different societies and celebrating the intricacies of our shared humanity.
With a keen eye for detail and a deep appreciation for the world around me, my illustrations offer a glimpse into the beauty of both the ordinary and the extraordinary. Join me on this journey of exploration and appreciation as we celebrate life's simple joys together."

Artyshow Biel/Bienne 2023.10.04 – 10.29

For the 2023 edition, I have chosen to exhibit works on the theme of Japan and its contrasts. In the windows you can see two triptychs printed on light cotton of two illustrations between a forest of luminous panels and a Maico among traditional umbrellas. Both illustrate the clash of Japan's two worlds. Closer looks reveal the original drawings playing hide-and-seek with the textiles.

Journey to Kyoto – Tenoha Milano 2022.10.10 – 12.30

This series of drawings is a collection specially made for a Tenoha Concept Store, exhibition space and restaurant in Milan. The store is filled with books, clothes and special items directly from Japan. It's a little Japan in the middle of the italian city.

I was inspired by the richness of the culture and the different hidden places in the ancient capital of Japan, Kyoto.
Some of the drawings are about the people and some are about the architecture and nature that are everywhere in the city. It was important for me to capture the right moment and illustrate the atmosphere as I felt it.

All the original illustrations are for sale and A4 posters and post cards of each of them can be purchased and ordered in the Tenoha store.

The subtlety of cultural differences is particularly visible in her illustration applying Indian ink and pen. The contrast between black ink on white paper reflects well the old part of Asakusabashi and the new part of Tokyo. Thus, her drawings create a new series of illustrations.
